The How House, 2011
This project of photographs and a video focuses on the failures of an idealized modernist domestic space. It is all shot at the How House, a residence in Los Angles designed by the architect Rudolph Schindler in 1926.
In the video, the dialogue is transplanted from a scene in the film “L’Eclisse” in which the main character ends a relationship. The house becomes a space of failed utopian ideals that is at once seductive and destructive, and a site that reveals an unresolved and unknowable history the of wife of the man who commissioned the house.
